"those who give up privacy for security will lose both."
digitalism, softwarification, the age of artificial intelligence and datanomics. these are indeed exciting times. one of the few comparissions that seem appropriate is the one to the combustion engine. when trains, cars and planes made the earth a much closer place, by cutting away most of the time to cover distances.
not only are these distances reduced to mere miliseconds nowadays when it comes to the transport of information. we can also analyze and work this information in mindblowing speed.
but as individual and mass transport came with the price of rising carbondioxide levels in the atmosphere, so could digitalism.
the new systems offer ways of control that were only part of grim dystopias until couple of years.
voyeur:bathroom reflects quite literally the questions of ownership and control. the object itself is a threedimensional, abstracted collage. it combines visual references from tech companies and security agencies with an interactive camera tracking system.
the implicit metaphors and analogies of the object reflect the outcome of the previous research and are intended to spark discussions.
the project was realized with the help of robin cogan.
